One of the most anticipated events in the world of international illustration kicks off 2019 – the official selection for the “Illustrators Exhibition”, which will be presented during this year’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair, has begun. A jury of 5 experts met in Bologna between 7 and 9 January to evaluate and select the works that will make up the 2019 exhibition.
Every year, thousands of entries arrive from all over the world. The standard is very high, as is the variety of techniques, styles and themes. The jury members dedicated the first day to defining the selection criteria and the first selection of works. Today and tomorrow they will have the task of deepening the discussion around the final selection, which will soon be published on the fair’s website.
This year’s jury members are:
Diego Bianchi (Argentina) – teacher, illustrator, designer and publisher.
Maciej Byliniak (Poland) – editor-in-chief at Dwie Siostry Publishing, winner of the “BOP – Prize for the Best Children’s Publisher of the Year” 2018 award.
Alessandro Sanna (Italy) – an illustrator you may remember from his visit to Bulgaria in 2016 and the exhibition “Illustrations for Children: The Best of Italy”.
Harriët van Reek (Netherlands) – illustrator, winner of the Golden Pen Award.
Béatrice Vincent (France) – publisher
And we would like to remind you that last year we had a Bulgarian illustrator in the final selection – Kalina Muchova.
