Poet Ekaterina Yosifova is the winner of the golden “Orpheus Wreath” for high achievements in contemporary poetry, which is traditionally awarded to the most prominent poet of the year. The award was presented last night by the Minister of Culture Boil Banov. He arrived in the city under the hills to greet thousands of Plovdiv residents gathered at the Ancient Theater for the official opening ceremony of the 15th Literary Festival “Plovdiv Reads”. The “Golden Brush” for artistic design was awarded by Deputy Mayor Alexander Darzhikov to Kiril Zlatkov. The event was opened by the Folk Dance Ensemble “Iglika” at the Municipal Children’s Complex – Plovdiv, and Toni Dimitrova and Orlin Goranov performed their greatest hits.
The “Orpheus Wreath” is being awarded to a female poet for the first time. Among her books of poetry are: “Short Journey”, 1969; “A Wind Comes at Night”, 1972; “Hands”, 2006; “This Snake”, 2010; “A Thin Book”, 2014. He also writes books for children: “A True Tale of Polly”, 1994; “The Legend of the Magic Singer”, 2000; “The Little Dragon Polly”, 2012. He is the winner of the “Hr. G. Danov” award of the Ministry of Culture for fiction (“Up – Down”). In 2014, Ekaterina Yosifova also received the Grand Prize for Literature of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
Kiril Zlatkov was born in Varna. He is an artist, graduated in “Graphics” from the National Academy of Arts in 1996. He has worked in various fields of visual arts – graphics, painting, poster, mural, graphic design, illustration, calligraphy and type. He has had several solo exhibitions and many participations in various joint exhibitions. He has also worked in the field of advertising as an art director and creative director.
For another year, the partners of the 15th edition of the Literary Festival “Plovdiv Reads” are the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Bulgarian Book Association, and the host is the Publishing House “Jeanette 45”. Among the many partners are the “Plovdiv 2019” Foundation, the Municipal Institute “Ancient Plovdiv”, the Drama Theater – Plovdiv, community centers, etc. The event, which is under the patronage of the Mayor of Plovdiv, is part of the Calendar of Cultural Events of the Municipality of Plovdiv for 2017. In 14 tents on the square in front of the Central Post Office, 40 publishing houses will exhibit their latest titles. Until June 25, the audience will be able to enjoy meetings with writers, performances and literary readings, as well as numerous accompanying events.
