The team of the National Children's Book Week officially announced on its FB page that in 2018, the event will not take place.

"Friends,

This year our beloved initiative National Children's Book Week will not take place.

We promise that we will do everything possible in 2019 to meet again with many new ideas and creative energy!

Regards,

The team of the "Books for Children" association

This announcement once again raises the question of the possibility of constancy of such initiatives, campaigns and events. Often they start loudly and with a promise of sustainability, but being funded by projects or programs, it turns out that they initially did not have the potential to continue. Can children's literature festivals in Bulgaria exist without EU funding?

"National Children's Book Week" in 2017 was organized by the non-profit association "Books for Children" and the National Palace of Culture - as we know, in 2018 the National Palace of Culture did not receive much of its funding.

A very recent example is the “Sofia International Literary Festival for Children and Youth”, which took place between 18 and 22 April 2018 at the Nikolay Binev Youth Theatre. The event was part of the Cultural Programme for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2018. We will see what will happen to it next year, when Bulgaria will not be hosting the EU.

VarnaLit managed to surprise with a second edition, which will be held from May 30 to June 2, 2018. The MLF VarnaLit Association organized the festival with the support of the Municipal Culture Fund of Varna Municipality, private donations and non-governmental organizations, business, etc. The program of this year's edition has already been uploaded to the event website.
