Translators of fiction are the greatest ambassadors of the spirit, culture and history of each country. Their role is of exceptional importance for the mutual understanding of all nations in a united Europe, notes the National Book Center - NDK.
National literatures are the most direct, easy and successful way to gain insight into the psyche of the peoples who inhabit the European community, united in its differences. This need for mutual recognition is fully realized by cultural figures from all EU member states and has been made a priority for most countries, representatives of the so-called “small languages” in the community. The first and most important mediators in this process are undoubtedly translators. However, their apostolic mission is closely linked to translation programs and international practices that encourage their activities.
That is why the second discussion of the year, dedicated to the topic “Contemporary Bulgarian Literature in the Context of European Modernity”, will focus precisely on the conditions in which translators work, as well as on the programs that support their activities.
The discussion is part of the program of the National Center of Culture – National Palace of Culture, included in the cultural calendar in the year of the European Presidency.
