How another year has rolled by, I still don't understand. But here it is, a fact, our website is 4 years old. What have we accomplished during this period? I think I'll leave the five-year plan review for next year, both to make it look more impressive and to see if the wishes will come true while we blow out the four candles today.
And since the birthday boy is drawing, here's what the big news is and what's happening backstage on the site, and I sincerely hope that in the coming months we'll have more and more opportunities to talk about these things.
You probably noticed that at the beginning of the year we changed the logo of the Bulgarian Illustration website, this was an extremely necessary step, because the previous one, let's admit it - was terrible. With the new "book", as many colleagues call it, we tried to create the identity of the new goals and tasks of the site, because from now on there is a lot of work to be done. Not that this is news at the moment, but... let's face it.
You already know the logo of the "Biennale of Illustration". It varies in color, so that we can distinguish the editions over the years. The logo is the main vision of the entire event and you see it both on the cover of the catalogs and on the poster. With the new Biennale website, we were able to separate the news that is intended for the event itself and to facilitate the information flow, for which I am extremely grateful to Viktor Alexandrov, who took on this burden and my "just a little more to the left, please!".
Here is the first surprise for the birthday boy! At the end of 2020, we managed to register the UNION OF BULGARIAN ILLUSTRATORS! There will be a lot of work ahead, so it will happen gradually, but I sincerely hope that it will be useful for all colleagues, even those who are not directly involved in illustration and design. We will talk about prices, money, rights, authorship, contracts, taxes, exhibitions, projects, books, events, events, promotions, organizations, membership fees, benefits and many, many more things. We are currently preparing the site, and the surprises are yet to come. And before you ask – yes, everyone is invited to join and no, there are no restrictions!
And perhaps the most interesting and our favorite "gift" this year is that... drums, please! We are starting publishing! The first book has already gone through an editor and proofreader, it is waiting to go in for design and prepress, and because why should it be simple, when it can be complicated, we are also waiting for a very important document from the Ministry of Culture. The plans are for it to come out of the printing house in early autumn, if COVID doesn't pass us by, and you keep your fingers crossed!
And so… four years flew by like a joke. During this time we grew older, we didn’t get any wiser, but we had a wonderful childhood with lots of books and illustrations. Everything goes according to plan, sometimes according to plan B, but it’s always fun thanks to you, who read us, share, follow, participate in our exhibitions, initiatives and “pick our brains”, as my mother often says.
And before we blow out the candles, even though we don’t have a cake, THANK YOU for being by our side, by my side, all these years!
