Two names (and a pseudonym):
Albena Devedjieva (albena.design)

Introduce yourself in a few words:
My name is Albena Devedjieva and I am a brand designer and illustrator. In my studio Albena Design (www.albena.design) I help brands build strong and distinctive visual identities through a strategic approach - with research, strategy and close collaboration with the client to create a vision that works for their audience.
In illustration, on the other hand, I trust intuition and emotions - I experiment with colors, textures and details to transform internal states into visual images. This is my way of simultaneously reflecting personal experiences and creating works that touch people and evoke emotion.

What did you graduate from?
I graduated in Business Communication Management at HTW Berlin, Germany - an education that gave me a solid foundation in communication and design and immersed me in a very dynamic and creative environment. Later, I also completed the comprehensive graphic design program at SoftUni, where I developed practical skills and deepened my focus on visual language.

What is your professional experience so far?
I have been working in the field of graphic design and e-commerce for more than five years. During this period, I have been creating visual identities for Bulgarian and international brands, working on design for social networks and advertising visions for e-commerce and digital businesses, where design is closely tied to results and effectiveness. In my studio Albena Design (www.albena.design), I combine strategy, research and a creative approach to build identities that remain sustainable over time. For me, design is more than aesthetics - it is a means of communication and building connection and trust.

Tell us more about your work (style, technique, interests, way of working):
In design, I value a strategic approach - I start with research and dialogue with the client to discover the essence of the brand and find the right visual language for its target audience. I am interested in how an idea can be translated into visual symbolism that not only tells a story, but also works long-term for the client.

In my personal illustrations, I work more intuitively - I am inspired by the exploration of perspective, human experiences and the way emotions can be translated into images. I draw both digitally and analogically - mainly with fine art and acrylic - and sometimes experiment with techniques such as linocut. Limited color palettes, textures and light are the main elements through which I build atmosphere and visual narratives.

Exhibitions/participations/performances/awards:
Biennale of Illustration (2020), Biennale of Illustration (2024), The Sofianer (2025).

Illustrated works:
Illustrations realized within the framework of brand design projects for clients, including illustrations for a restaurant menu. I have no published publications yet.

Who is your favorite illustrator?
Sean Tan is among the illustrators who impress me the most. I like the way his illustrations combine poetry and symbolism - they don't just accompany the text, but build a parallel story with their own life.

What is your favorite illustrated book?
I can't name just one, but recently I was very impressed by "My Sofia and Other Images" by Vyara Boyadzhieva. What I liked the most was the depth of the stories told and the way they touch you through the visual images - a feeling that you can recognize yourself in them.

What book do you dream of illustrating?
I would like to illustrate "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse. This is a book in which philosophy is intertwined with extremely strong visual motifs - the river as an eternal flow, nature as change, contemplation as depth. I am inspired by the opportunity to express these ideas through visual language - through the play of light and shadow, the rhythm of the composition and the color contrasts that reflect the different states of the character. For me, this would be a way for the illustration to make the text more tangible - to turn the ideas into images that the viewer can feel as strongly as the words.
