We continue with the thematic presentation of authors and since the month of February somehow predisposes us to our topic, we will introduce you to several artists who make cards: We start with…

Kristina Stoyanova

Education: Bachelor - Graphics and Master - Graphic Design at the National Academy of Arts

Professional experience: I have worked as a graphic designer for 3 years in several advertising agencies, and since the beginning of 2017 I have been working freelance as an illustrator. For 6 months now I have also been making bags with patterns drawn by me, which is a rather unexpected turn in my art career, which has taken me to a slightly better-lit street.

Exhibitions/projects/awards/participations: First prize for computer graphics from the Computer Arts Festival "Computer space" in 2013 and two exhibitions at the same festival in 2015 and 2018, but none of my own will and initiative.

What does it really mean to make cards? Tell us about your process.
To me, making cards means creating a small-format image that can be given as a gift and make the recipient say “Wow.” I love it when people I don’t know see something I’ve created and feel like it was made just for them. The process is the same as creating anything else I draw. I draw until something comes to me that makes me smile, then I take that idea and develop it until I have an image that matches what I’ve imagined.

Is the card an illustration? And is the illustration a card?

What event/occasion do you dream of creating a card for? I haven’t thought about it, but now that I have to, I would be interested in creating a card for a sad event that aims to make the recipient happy and hopeful. It doesn't have to be a funeral, it can just be a divorce 🙂 Because when it's fun, it's easy!

What do people most often NOT know about making a card? They don't know that when you make a card, you don't want to create just a picture, but rather a memory that hasn't been experienced yet.

Favorite examples that have inspired you in your work? I am inspired by all the people I see with what love and effort they do what they do. But for example:
