Two names (and a pseudonym):
Nadezhda Kostova (zitronadaa)
Introduce yourself in a few words:
My name is Nadezhda and I am from Sofia. I work as a graphic designer, but in my free time I never stop drawing. I like to mix different techniques and experiment with expressive means. Over the years I have participated in various joint exhibitions and my first solo exhibition is coming up soon.
What did you graduate from?
I graduated from the National Vocational High School of Printing and Photography and then a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts at the New Bulgarian University. Now I am pursuing a Master's degree in Illustration in Barcelona.
What is your professional experience so far?
For the last three years I have been working at the INKPRESSION® brand studio as a graphic designer. I also work freelance, making covers and posters for music groups. One of the projects I am most proud of in recent years is the cover of “Resto” (by Bistra Velichkova). I also illustrated and animated the music video for the song “Firefly” by Falshivi Geroi.
Tell us more about your work (style, technique, interests, working method):
I draw mainly with ink, but I like to work with a mixture of different techniques - collage, watercolor, linocut. I don’t like to limit myself with the means of expression.
Exhibitions/participations/performances/awards:
I have participated in all editions of the Biennale of Illustration (2018, 2020, 2022, 2024), The artist at a play - Persona, Playground for untitled creatures (joint exhibition with Margarita Koedzhikova), and in 2017 I won an award for Illustration and Comics from the National Youth Competition.
Illustrated works:
I have illustrated my own zines “Mask Off” and “The Forgotten silence”.
Who is your favorite illustrator?
It's very difficult to say just one.. I'll try to narrow it down to three names - I really like the works of Damyan Damyanov, Petya Evlogieva and Mira Miroslavova.
What is your favorite illustrated book?
Fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm with the wonderful illustrations of Mira Miroslavova.
What book do you dream of illustrating?
I've always wanted to illustrate George Orwell's "A Breath of Air".
