We told you about the upcoming exhibition on the TI-RE platform back in March, when we met with Mila Yaneva-Tabakova and Veliana Ivanova at the National Academy of Arts. The creative group also includes Victoria Staykova and Andrea Popyordanova. And now, two months later, their first exhibition is already a fact. It was opened on June 12, 2017 in the Sofia Hall of the Sofia Library.

29 artists are participating in the competition, and not all of them are professionally involved in the field of books or art in general. The idea of the conceptual project is to provoke authors to take a sentence out of the general context of the literary work and turn it into an independent work. So, at the beginning, each candidate had to state the sentence with which they would participate, and only then create a unique book based on it. Among the sentences you will find both classic works and more unfamiliar texts, and some authors have offered their own works.

Among the many books, it is striking that the emphasis of all was the unique art book. The exhibition offers us a variety of bindings and fastenings. The materials are also far from “ordinary paper”. Ceramic sheets, textile books, pages of fine sandpaper and glass tiles stand next to books made of toilet paper and handmade paper and photo books. The provocation addressed to visitors is in two directions – discovering the text and breaking the perception of a “book” as a market object. You can look for your own reading of each of the works until June 23, of course, in the Library. We will not present each of the works, in order to leave this pleasure to your imagination.
