On May 31, 2021, in the park in front of the National Palace of Culture, this year's Spring Book Bazaar began. Nearly 120 Bulgarian publishers huddled under the tents of the Bulgarian Book Publishers Association. The official opening was at 4:00 p.m. in the "yellow tent" of the Literary Corner, to the left of the "Voynish Lion", at which the Minister of Culture, Prof. Velislav Minekov, and Desislava Aleksieva from the Bulgarian Book Publishers Association kicked off the cultural program.

This year's Spring Book Bazaar will be held under the motto "9% VAT on books for a more literate and more educated nation". In a discussion of the same name on June 2 at 11:00 a.m. at the Literary Corner, industry experts will talk about the effects of the reduced VAT rate on books and why it is important that it becomes permanent. The moderator will be Tereza Zaharieva from bTV Radio Group, and we will also be on site to make you part of the discussion.

ABC would like to remind you that all visitors to the Spring Book Bazaar will have the opportunity to sign the petition with which publishers and booksellers call on the public to support the retention of a lower VAT rate on books as a permanent measure. The petition, initiated by the Bulgarian Book Association, is now available online here and can be signed by anyone who wishes to support books and reading.
