By 2025, the Leipziger Buchmesse had fully regained and even surpassed its pre-pandemic momentum. From 27–30 March 2025, the fair welcomed nearly 300,000 visitors under the guiding motto “Worte bewegen Welten” (“Words Move Worlds”).

With more than 2,000 exhibitors from roughly 45 countries, the fairgrounds were once again filled with international dialogue, business negotiations and enthusiastic readers. The strong attendance figures reflected both industry vitality and sustained public interest.

“In a time of global uncertainty, words have the power to connect, challenge and inspire,” fair organisers stated in their opening address. “Leipzig is the place where these words find an audience and where ideas cross borders.”

The accompanying Leipzig liest expanded to approximately 2,800 events at more than 300 venues throughout the city. Churches, cafés, theatres and museums hosted readings and debates, transforming Leipzig into a vast cultural network.

Meanwhile, the Manga-Comic-Con continued to grow as a dynamic platform for visual storytelling and pop culture. Alongside it, the Antiquarian Book Fair highlighted the historical depth of the book trade, offering rare and collectible editions.

The awarding of the Preis der Leipziger Buchmesse once again commanded national attention. Discussions across the programme addressed topics such as artificial intelligence in publishing, sustainability in production and the defense of free expression.

“We see an extraordinary resonance from readers and exhibitors alike,” the fair’s management concluded in its final press communiqué. “The Leipzig Book Fair demonstrates that literature remains a vital force in shaping public discourse.”

With record attendance and an expanded international presence, the 2025 edition confirmed Leipzig’s enduring position as one of Europe’s leading literary gatherings — a forum where words do indeed move worlds.
