“We quietly unfold the leaves and carefully move the branches so as not to disturb the people and to secretly peek into the wonderful, but shyly nestled within itself, fragrant with leaves, grass and freshly fallen rain nature.” With these words, the Brothers Grimm lead us along the winding, steep forest path of their tales and tales, which reveal rocks, lakes, ruins, trees, mysterious plants before us. Behind the fog of these sometimes gloomy landscapes emerge angry giants, brave princesses, devilish spirits, tyrannical kings, mermaids, ghost hunters, shy dwarfs and even sometimes white nightmares.
“Tales from Darkness” is an exhibition inspired by the lesser-known German tales of the Brothers Grimm and some of their fairy tales. As the authors themselves mention, sometimes the tales are the basis for their fairy tales. The watercolor illustrations will show us characters with a warning and fear of evil, but also joy from goodness and the magic of the inexplicable.
We will turn Cryptid Art Space into a “living book” where you will be able to see watercolor illustrations by Mateya Arkova and read excerpts from the tales, legends and fairy tales that inspired the illustrations.
And as the Brothers Grimm say in their book "German Fairy Tales": "At birth, a person receives a good angel in his homeland, who accompanies him in the form of a trusted companion... This beneficial companionship is the inexhaustible wealth of fairy tales, legends and history, which are interconnected..." This exhibition in the dark-magical world of Mrs. Hall and Faithful Eckart, The Rat Catcher, Rostrap and Kreepful, The Seven Ravens can become such a companion for you...
