As we announced back in early March, the Bologna Children’s Book Fair has been canceled. Of course, this caused a lot of chaos in the international book community. But let’s leave business aside… we have already presented the exhibitions we missed in several publications, but the awards remain! We were late here because we admit that we were waiting for official information from the organizers.

Korean Hina Beck has won the 2020 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, it was announced live from Astrid Lindgren's home in Stockholm in March. The chairman of the jury for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, Prof. Buel Vestin, announced Korean author and picture book illustrator Hina Beck as the 2020 laureate. As you know, this ceremony is broadcast live during the Bologna Book Fair, but alas, this time it didn't happen exactly like that. (We recall that two Bulgarian writers were also nominated this year - Maya Dalgacheva and Yulia Spiridonova.

Another award that we will miss on site is the IBBY Hans Christian Andersen Prize, awarded every two years. The ceremony will take place on May 4th again online, and the winners will be announced after 2:30 p.m. There are two categories here – for author and illustrator, and here is who made the shortlist:
Author: María Cristina Ramos (Argentina), Bart Moeyaert (Belgium), Marie-Aude Murail (France), Farhad Hassanzadeh (Iran), Peter Svetina (Slovenia) and Jacqueline Woodson (USA)
Illustrator: Isabelle Arsenault (Canada), Seizo Tashima (Japan), Sylvia Weve (Netherlands), Iwona Chmielewska (Poland), Elena Odriozola (Spain) and Albertine (Switzerland).
In a special video you can learn a little more about each of the nominees this year, and we will follow the news and who will win the prestigious award.
